Audio Issues

I recently started using my Windows 8.1 XPS computer once again and foūnd that thē audi on i does not work. When I try to select the audio shorcut in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop, it shows that the volume is muted and when I try to select it to fix the volume, an error message comes up saying “Playing audio” at the top and it shows a progress bar saying “Resolving problems – Searching for hardware changes”. What should I do? The last time I used thē computer, the audio was fine.
